How is career passer rating calculated?
The formula is identically equal to the single-season NFL formula. Instead of using stats from one game or season, you simply input the quarterback's grand total career passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns, and interceptions into the formula.
Who has the highest career passer rating in NFL history?
Currently, Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers alternate at the top of the all-time career list with ratings above 103.5 (minimum 1,500 attempts).
Why do older Hall of Famers have lower career ratings?
Rules regarding pass interference, illegal contact, and roughing the passer were vastly different prior to 2004. Defenses were allowed to be much more physical with receivers. This means a 90.0 rating in 1985 was significantly harder to achieve than a 90.0 rating in 2023.
Do playoff games count toward career passer rating?
Typically, no. NFL historical records separate regular season stats from postseason stats. If an analyst quotes a 'career passer rating', they are almost certainly referring exclusively to regular season statistics.
